2010 Northeast Randori & Weapons 4-Day Intensive with George Ledyard, 6th Dan Mar 12, 2010 08:00 AM

Ledyard Sensei has developed a very systematic method for isolating the movement principles involved in handling multiple attackers as well as taking an in-depth look at the psychological components involved in Aikido which can hold one back from being able to optimize ones techniques.  The weapons training focuses on essential principles in the interaction between the two partners and connects the use of weapons to the use of empty hand techniques in a way that should be of interest to any student of Aikido.

Attendance is limited to 20 students of rank of 3rd kyu and up.  Cost is $250 for all four days.

Registration is done on-line at:

Ukemi Workshop taught by Kaizen Taiki Apr 17, 2010 01:00 PM
Kaizen Taiki is a certified Systema instructor under Vladimir Vasiliev who teaches at Systema NW - Eastside in Bellevue, Washington.  His understanding of Systema principles along with 22 years of martial arts experience contribute to Kaizen’s soft style focused on breathing, health and psyche while maintaining martial validity.

Kaizen will combine his experience in Kodokan Judo, Aikido and Japanese Koryu with Systema principle in a workshop that will transform how the Aikido student views ukemi. We will focus on ukemi as a means of developing awareness of the Physical and Psychological Tension that develops from fear of conflict and falling. We will then break down the ukemi process and see how to cleanse, strengthen and balance ourselves through a healthy and safe martial practice.

The content covered will be appropriate for men and women interested in developing “soft falling” skills. This class will be very beneficial for anyone wishing to reduce fear and injury while building confidence both on and off the mat. Instructors in particular will benefit from the application of Systema principle to their current teaching methodology.

All organizations and affiliations are welcome!

Ushiro Karate Seminar taught by Kenji Ushiro, 8th Dan Kyoshi May 15, 2010 09:00 AM

Seminar with Kenji Ushiro, 8th Dan, Kyoshi of  Ushiro Karetedo

Kenji Ushiro Sensei teaches a style of Okinawan Karate called Ushiro Karatedo.  Ushiro Sensei is an 8th dan Kyoshi of Ushiro  Karetedo and 7th dan Kyoshi of Iaido, All-Japan Kendo Federation.  His teacher, Nikichi Zaha, learned Okinawan karate from his own father, who was the direct student of Sokon Matsumura, as well as from his elder brother, Jiro Zaha, one of the top students of Chosin Chibana.  Matsumura and Chibana were pivotal figures in the development of modern Okinawan karate.   Zaha Sensei learned from many famous kareteka such as Shinpei Tawada.

Ushiro Sensei’s mastery of ki, as expressed through his karate, is at a level rarely seen in the world of martial arts.  He is a highly sought-after instructor in Japan and author of several books on martial arts.  His second book, Karate and Ki, has recently been released in an English version (reading this book before the seminar is strongly recommended).

Ushiro Sensei will be teaching the first of two seminars in New York in 2010.  This will be a great opportunity to train with Ushiro Sensei in the United States this year.  This seminar is a rare opportunity for any style of martial artist to work on increasing the ability to generate and use internal power in the execution of an art.  Registration for this event is mandatory and training spaces for this event are expected to fill-up quickly.
